Dear Friends,

Where did the Summer go?!  What happened to those long-awaited 8 weeks of rest and relaxation?! There was no relaxation as the Granary’s staff can well attest. We kicked off our Summer with Shop Hop by the Bay 2008! Can you believe this was our 8th year?! How many of you have participated in all 8 shop hops? We had a record number of participants this year—nearly 800—which surprised us all given the cost of gas. You can mark your calendars now for next year’s event. Shop Hop 2009 will run Wednesday-Sunday, June 24-28.

All of our classes were quite popular this Summer, including our Friday Strip Club and our new Double Delight Club (you can read more about that on p. 2). I can’t imagine how many miles I put on my sewing machine this Summer making samples for our club meetings, my Mystery Quilt in August and two Kids’ Camps! I even managed to squeak in an apron to wear for our Shop Hop theme and a Miranda Bag for Erin’s birthday in June. Have you made the Miranda Day Bag from Lazy Girl Designs yet? We’ve sold more Miranda Day Bag patterns than any pattern we’ve ever carried. And you can’t make just one! You have to make one for yourself and then one for every female you know! Jody is teaching it twice between now and December. You can see a picture of Jody’s on our website.

Speaking of Erin, my eldest daughter, that magical day has finally come! Erin will be graduating from Chico State at the end of December with a BS in Nursing! Her three years away have passed so quickly. She plans to move back to the Bay Area in January and would like to work in an Intensive Care Unit at a local hospital. We are very proud of her and can’t wait to have her close to home again.

Congratulations to my youngest, Lauren, who received a blue ribbon at the San Mateo County Fair for her Yellow Brick Road quilt! Good job, Lauren! I was quite impressed with the display of quilts at the fair this year. There was a wonderful variety of quilts from traditional to art in all shapes and sizes. It was fun to see so many familiar quilts belonging to familiar customers.

We’ve added lots of new classes to our line-up this Fall but are again offering some of our most popular. Nancy Young is teaching a multi-session traditional hand-piecing class which I think will fill quickly so sign up early; Angela has new yo-yo projects for you; Jody is teaching some beautiful placemats called Mexican Tiles and the Miranda Day Bag, of course; and Kathy Ruwe has a stunning new batik quilt to offer—just to name a few! Come by the shop or view the samples on our website. They’re prettier in person though!

Be sure to visit us at PIQF in October! See page 2 for details! See you soon and in the meantime, Happy Quilting!

Paula
